This weekend we had our annual awards night for our adult teams. It was a great night where we got to celebrate the very special talent we have within our cub. A massive thank you to everyone who attended and to our volunteers who helped organise, set up and ensure the night was such a success.

It was also a night where we acknowledge the recipients of two special awards:

Our Hall of Fame Award - A special honour for Michael O’Grady, whose decades of service, leadership, and passion have left an enduring mark on Lucan Sarsfields.
Club Person of the Year – Huge congratulations to Ronan Foley for his outstanding contribution to the club in 2025 — a true example of what it means to give back.

Please see the below list for all of our award winners:

PLAYER OF THE YEAR AWARDS 2025

Minor C Hurling

This year’s Minor C Player of the Year has stood out not just for skill, but for attitude, consistency, determination and teamwork. There is no doubt that this player helped our 08 and 07 squad to bond. Starting as a key scoring forward in the corner he was moved to centre forward and he made the #11 jersey his own, leading the line cajoling, encouraging, scoring and assisting his teammates. The Minor C 2025 Player of the year is Rob Melvin.

Minor C Football

The player of the year nominated for Minor C football had an exceptional season in midfield and dictated in every game. He led by example at training and transferred the same enthusiasm on game days. He never complained about anything he just got on with the game and always seemed to be enjoying it.  The minor C footballer of the year is Killian O'Connor.

Minor C Ladies Football

This player rarely missed training, delivering consistently outstanding performances throughout the league and championship. She played across defence, midfield, and attack, never once complaining about position—because for her, it was always about the team.

The 2025 Minor Player of the Year is Lara O’Reilly.

Minor B Football

Throughout the season this player has been a key figure in the most consistent line on the pitch, a unit that required little adjustment and delivered reliably each game. This player has distinguished himself by example demonstrating exceptional ball winning ability while maintaining a quiet and composed presence on the field. He is a player whose actions speak larger than words. Minor B player of the year is Eoghan Burke.

Minor B Hurling

The minor B player of the year this year has been a constant throughout the year at both training and at matches. At the start of a game and at half time he'd be the first to encourage the team to go out and give it 100 percent and lead by example. That's why this years minor B hurling player of the year is Darragh Colfer.

Minor B Camogie

This player is deserving of this award as she has shown her ability to play in the half back line as well as the half forward line. She is a brilliant free taker and goes about quietly on the team letting her skills and exceptional work rate do the talking when playing camogie. This year’s recipient of Minor B camogie player of the year Eabha Fox.

Minor B Ladies Football

The 2025 Minor B Ladies Football award goes to a player who always worked hard on the pitch whether it be in matches or training. Always encouraged her teammates and always positive to all the girls.

This player always trained consistently and was always available for games. She was always in good form and brought the players from 2007 and 2008 together to become the team that would win the league

This player played a huge roll in the winning of the league and for the second year running, the Minor B ladies footballer of the year is Aoibhinn Gallagher.

Minor A Ladies Football

This player was voted for by all 4 mentors for her outstanding performances during the year in all competitions.  As part of the leadership group, she performed consistently well throughout league and championship and her ability to give her all right until the final whistle was evident in every game she played. Her quiet confidence and attitude at training during the year set the bar for the rest of the team to follow. She dug deep in the latter rounds of championship and especially in extra time in the Division 1 Shield final to drive the team to victory.  Her ability to cover every blade of grass on the pitch is second to none; Our 2025 Minor A Ladies Football Player of the Year is Laura O Reilly.

Minor A Football

2025 was another good year for minor A football, with the team competing at a very high level, in Division 1 league & minor A championship. We reached another minor A championship semi final, only to loose out narrowly on a place in the final, when loosing after ET in the semi final.

With various injured and missing players to contend with at different stages through the year, the strength of the squad was well tested and all players stood up to the task with many standout performances by various different players through our league & championship.

Our player of the year is someone who performed at a consistently high level all year, demonstrating a fantastic attitude and application to training & matches.  He always gave 100% in everything he did and was a positive influence on his team mates.

His application & effort are an example to all players on what it takes to get the most out of your ability and to deliver consistently high performances.

This player has been a pleasure to work with over the years & we look forward to seeing him continue to develop as he progresses into adult football for the club.

Off the football field he is also a very efficient lounge boy in Kennys, if you want a pint delivered to your table with good humour and a friendly chat.

Our 2025 minor A footballer of the Year is Phelim Dunne

Minor A Hurling

The Minor A hurlers had a good year and all the players stood up when it mattered, making it very challenging to pick a player of the year. The player we selected demonstrated brilliant commitment and attitude from the first training session in January. His quiet, unassuming nature disguises a determination and steeliness that makes him a top quality defender.

However, what set this player apart was the selflessness he displayed in the business end of the season. Injuries to our two first choice full backs meant someone who had never played full back was going to have to play there for our county semi-final. This player made no fuss about being told he had two weeks to learn to play in a new position. He put in a man of the match performance in the semi-final and looked like he’d played full back all his life. He was very sick in the run up to the final and was still clearly struggling for breath in the warm-up before the final. Again, he made no fuss, played for 40 minutes and didn’t put a foot wrong.

Minor A hurler of the year is Karl Quinn.

Minor A Camogie

The Minor A Camogie team had a very successful year on the pitch, winning Division 1 Championship.

This year we went for a Joint Celebration, two players who showed commitment, positive attitude, confidence and belief in themselves, and in their team shone through during the league and the championship.

Ellen, stepped between the goals at the beginning of the year and her confidence grew with each match.  This player was pivotal to our championship success, she pulled off some great saves in tense moments in the championship and her assurance in goals gave a sense of calm to the back line.

Kate, displayed skill and energy whether she played in defence, sweeper or as a Forward.   Her natural ability to find goal scoring moments in highly pressurised matches is a testament to her great work ethic and never give up attitude and always came to training with a smile on her face.

The players chosen as the Minor A Camogie players of the Year are Ellen Eakins and Kate Kennedy.

Under 21 A Hurling

This player made his Senior hurling championship debut this year as well as being apart of the Dublin u20s hurling panel and he is still eligible for Dublin 20s panel this year. He has a brilliant attitude on and off the pitch. His 100% commitment to win every ball and his willingness to put his body on the line every time he plays makes him stand out from the rest. He was the best player in the two games that the u21s played this year and he is a deserving winner of this award. The u21 hurling player of the year is Luke Mooney.

U-21 A Football

Representing Dublin and Lucan with distinction in 2025, this player possesses leadership skills beyond his years. One of the standout performers in our championship campaign from wing back, the U21 A Footballer of the Year for 2025 is Jamie Smith.

U 21A camogie

This year’s Player of the Year has been pivotal to Lucan’s defence, delivering outstanding performances marked by consistency, leadership, and composure. Dominant in the air and fearless in the tackle, she repeatedly shut down opposition attacks and set the tone from the back line. Her reading of the game, positional discipline, and ability to drive the team forward with intelligent distribution made her a key player throughout the season. A true leader by example, making her a worthy Player of the Year- Clíodhna Ní Buachalla.

U21B Camogie

This group of girls was a pleasure to work with and they came out in some of the worst weather all year having all played long seasons with their Intermediate, Junior and Minor teams! This player was fully committed to the team and was constantly encouraging all of the girls around her, making sure that the team integrated really well from the start! There wasn’t a blade of the senior pitch she didn’t cover over the matches played and she chased down every ball! Her positive attitude rubbed off on all around her and she was a real leader in the team! This years u21B camogie player of the year is Leah Duffy.

Under 21 B Football

We had a mixed campaign with our first outing being a blitz and exhibition on the how football can be played with fast transition and quick ball to the forward line. Worthy winners of our first game v TSS, were this player shone in the forward line.

The second game was a war of attrition v ballyboden, the gap was 9 at one point of the second half but we fought back  to level it with some excellent leadership and old fashioned grit by the whole team lead by our player of the year. Ultimately we fell just short to the eventual overwhelming winners of the competition in boden that day.

It is difficult to pick one player out over the course of two games but we went for the leader, who leads by example by doing, trying and never giving up. His attitude is top class and one thing is certain, you’ll get every ounce he has every time he pulls on the jersey!! This attitude is infectious which drives us on the line and others around him on the field.

This years player of the year for the u21b footballers and our captain for the year was Tommy Mulhall

Junior A Hurling

A good team is a good team but must also consist of good players.  Junior A Hurling Management annually has difficulty in choosing our player of the year and 2025 was no exception.  We look at the commitment and overall performance of each player throughout the year.

In 2025 we have chosen a player who has proven to be able to provide consistency and cohesion to the team.  Playing at a crucial position, our 2025 player of the year has shown us his ability to read the game.  That combined with his spatial awareness of his own position as well as the positions of his colleagues is both consistent and admirable; and particularly significant to the performance of the team.

We look forward to his continued development as the team enters a different and more challenging league in 2025.  But we have no doubt that our player of the year in 2025, Cian Duffy will help us enormously in facing those challenges.

Junior A Football

This player had an excellent season with the Juniors A’s this year, a player that gives everything for the team, puts huge heart and work rate into every performance. A big miss for the team when he had to go off injured in the Championship Semi Final. He has developed hugely as a player in the last few years and we hope to see him continuing to be a big player for the Football section in the coming years. The Junior A Footballer of the year is Dillon Ryan.

Junior A Ladies Football

The 2025 junior A Ladies Football award goes to a player who is never afraid to take on additional responsibilities both on and off the pitch and always has positive words of encouragement to all her team mates. This player always has a smile on her face and is one of the first players at training and the last to leave, during the season she was our go to player when a goal was required and she also got some vital points. The 2025 Junior A ladies Footballer of the year is Alannah Cassells

Junior A Camogie

This player showed incredible commitment to this team throughout the year for the League, Summer 7’s and Championship; her work at every training session was exemplary, adding to her skills, particularly high fielding, her positive attitude where she even tested out a different position in the forwards was an example to her team mates, this work ethic and development at training made her very difficult to play against in every game with her bringing the sliotar back out of the corner feeding our midfield & forwards with great ball time after time, the Junior A Camogie Player of the Year is Katie Feeney

Junior B Football

This young man has shown incredible determination and dedication throughout the season. He has seamlessly adapted to various positions on the field, asserting his dominance with skill and confidence. Whether playing in midfield, half-forward, or half-back or any other position, he tackles every challenge effortlessly. His growth as a player, has significantly impacted our performance both in matches and training. He possesses remarkable football intelligence and delivers precision kicks that light up the pitch. He's also a total gentleman.

Junior B Hurling

In recognition of outstanding leadership, unwavering commitment, and the fierce pride with which he wears the Lucan jersey.

This player, has embodied everything that defines Junior B hurling at Lucan Sarsfields — respect, resilience, teamwork and humour, along with a refusal to ever take a backward step. A natural leader of men, steady when things were tight, vocal when the group needed direction, and always the first to lift spirits with a word or a roar (usually directed at his underling Freddy).

Across the last 2 seasons, this player has been the heartbeat of the team. His influence stretched far beyond the pitch — shaping standards, welcoming new players, and anchoring a dressing room culture built on camaraderie and belief.

As he hangs up the boots, we honour not just the player, but the leader, teammate, and friend who gave everything for the jersey.

Go raibh maith agat, Sowrdzie — for the hits, the hooks, the hard yards, the heart and outstanding leadership. The 2025 Jun B POY award goes to Tiernan Swords!!

Intermediate Hurling

Every year, this award goes to someone who sets the standard — not just on one big day, but week after week.

This year’s winner was always there when it mattered. A constant presence. Part of the backbone of the team. Strong, reliable, hard to get past.

And somehow, no matter the weather, always looked like he’d just stepped off a plane from somewhere sunny — whether that was San Tropez… or from a bottle.

At the back, he stood firm all season. Calm under pressure, a leader in the spine of the team.

At the same time, this year also gave us a performance that simply couldn’t be ignored. A man who delivered when the stakes were highest. A Man of the Match display on championship day. Steady hands and sharp reactions. A presence between the posts that gave confidence to everyone in front of him. He mightn’t dance, but he’ll pull you one of the finest pints you’ll ever have.

So when it came time to choose one Intermediate Player of the Year, we realised we couldn’t. Because this year, it belongs to two men.

Your Intermediate Team Players of the Year are Anthony McNulty and Cathal Doody

Senior Hurling

This is a joint award

The first recipient was an ever present in the Lucan Senior Team in 2025. He moved from playing most of his Senior Hurling career in the inside line to revelling in the freedom afforded to playing in the half forward line taking to it with the enthusiasm of a spring lamb making his first journey into the field. He scored points like they were going out of fashion with a swerve of the hips sending many a good wing back to the car park and back. He also perfected the art of being in two places at once when asked to perform that thankless modern role of always being back defending as well as being an attacking threat Prompting one Judes opponent to be overheard cursing his teammate out that it felt like Lucan had 2 number 10s playing and could he at least mark one of them.

The other recipient played the role of conductor of the orchestra from goal to a fantastic level in 2025. His arrow like puckouts would put Roblin Hood and Luke Littler among his many admirers for distance and accuracy. He also had put in a great pre-season and his sprightly runs to join the play as an extra outfield player were duly noted, so much so he was challenging some of his younger teammates to races during the season !!!!  . He was also was at the heart of a fantastic defensive effort which saw the Senior Team through to the County Final, with only the concession of 3 goals ( 2 of which were penalties ) in the entire championship. Well done on your awards from the Lucan Senior Management Charlie Keher and Seanie McClelland.

Adult Management team of the year - Intermediate Hurling

Hall of Fame Award - Michael O’Grady

Club person of the year

Many of you will be familiar with the person who has been nominated as club person of the year. Not just this year but over many years this person has been active both in and outside of the club. His organisation of the pool league has made a huge difference to the bar. Also his coordination with the bar staff has helped make the bar a success. This person works behind the scenes with pitch advertising along with taking bookings for the function room and is always available to answer any questions regarding the function room. He also helps coordinate the McKeever club shop and again is available outside of normal hours to answer any queries. It is fair to say that the bar and clubhouse would be a much different place without the drive and vision of this individual.

The Lucan Sarsfields club person of the year for 2025 is Ronan Foley.
