Hurling Our Minor Hurlers had a pulsating 1 point victory over Kilmcud Crokes in their championship semi final on Sunday morning in Silver Park. The game was nip and tuck throughout, but Lucans never say die attitude and impact from the bench saw them through and they now gear up for a county final against St Jude’s this coming Sunday. See below for match details.
Let’s get out and support the players and management team.
Hurling Fresh off their Junior F Championship win in October, Lucan’s Junior B Hurlers faced a busy finish to the season with three back matches to determine their fate in Division 8. A walkover against Faughs and a narrow four-point loss to Parnells meant this final clash with St. Vincents became a straight shootout for promotion—both sides level on 20 points.
First Half: Grit and Gaps
Vincents came out firing, going three points up within five minutes before Adam Duffy settled Lucan with a free. The teams traded scores until Liam Farrell—never one for a handpass—claimed a puckout at halfway, charged into space, and “threw” a pass to Neil ‘Slip’ O’Leary. The return ball was perfect, and Liam buried a rasper into the top corner. Cian Ryan added a point, but Vincents responded with four unanswered to lead 1-7 to 1-4 at the break.
Second Half: Fire and Fight
Halftime adjustments focused on recycling possession and smarter shot selection. The response was emphatic. Shane Dolan and Jack McCarthy (thriving in a free role) led a nine-point turnaround. Finán Breen, introduced at centre forward, added energy, while Shane Dolan terrorised the Vincents full-back line. After two near misses, Shane broke free and rifled a goal, followed by another Jack McCarthy point.
With ten minutes to go, Lucan led 2-12 to 1-9and looked home and dry. But Vincents weren’t done—they struck a superb goal and two quick points to close the gap to one. Freddy Harran pulled off two heroic saves to keep Lucan ahead. Jack McCarthy added another, but Vincents replied, leaving the score at 2-13 to 2-12.
Final Moments: Nerves and Glory
In the dying seconds of extra time, Vincents were awarded a free. A point wouldn’t suffice—a draw would see Lucan promoted on points difference. They lobbed the ball into the square, Lucan cleared, and the referee blew the final whistle. Promotion secured. Back-to-back league climbs. Division 7 hurling awaits this young, committed, and improving squad.
Standouts and Farewells
Jack McCarthy earned Man of the Match honours with six points and tireless play. Tiernan Swords was immense at full back in his final competitive game. Ben O’Keefe was rock solid, while Farrell and Ryan bossed midfield with no-nonsense grit. The team showed real steel—refusing to be bullied as they had been against Parnells.
Lucan Team:
Freddy Harran, James Scott, Tiernan Swords (Capt), Dillon Ryan, Darraigh Quinn, Ben O’Keeffe, Conor Mulqueen, Liam Farrell (1-1), Cian Ryan (0-1), Adam Duffy (0-2f), Jack McCarthy (0-6), Kevin Gormley (0-1), Conor Dolan, Neil O’Leary, Lee Murphy

Ladies Football The Minor A Ladies football team secured their second trophy of the year winning the Division 1 Shield Final v St. Maurs, after securing the Division 1 league title earlier in the year.
A slow start saw the girls conceding 2 early goals, but calm heads prevailed and with solid kicking from goal keeper Caoilfhionn Ni Bhriain, the girls scored some lovely points to bring the match back to a one point game by half time, with Eva Collis, Reka Kiss Kallo, Rachel Johnson and Juliette Harford all putting points on the board. Unfortunately, Reka suffered a calf injury at half time and was replaced by Grian Galligan Byrne.
A nip and tuck second half saw us trading points with St. Maurs, and the lead changed hands several times, with Lucan hitting the woodwork on more than one occasion (a trademark of this team!). Sadhbh Lynch and Laura O'Reilly ran themselves into the ground from midfield in the second half, with the back 6, including Anya Dunne, Niamh Lamon, Niamh O'Brien and Siena Harford turning over the ball on several occasions. Lucan trailed by one point heading for the final whistle, but a bold move saw corner back Zarah Casey Lancaster moved up to the full forward line, with great results as she blazed over the leveller with seconds to go.
With a result required on the day, extra time was on the cards. This team have trained tirelessly all year, with many, many hard running sessions to gain what Cathal Lynch calls "Money in the bank". Well he was on the money with that, as Lucan Sarsfields better fitness was massively evident in extra time. Juliette Harford scored the first point after 2 minutes and 3 minutes later Cara Coffey hit the back of the net in a well worked goal. From then on, there was only one winner as the opposition faded and the Lucan girls fitness took them all the way to the end of extra time. Further points from Sadhbh Lynch, Zarah Casey Lancaster, Eva Collis and Rachel Johnson saw them win by 8 points, having outscored St. Maurs by 1-9 to 0-1 in extra time.
The Shield was presented by the referee Ronald Malone to the Lucan captain Rachel Johnson to cap a great year for the Minor A Ladies football team.
