Lucan Sarsfield’s Club Notes
Hurling
Inter Hurling – Good Counsel v. Lucan Sarsfields
Final Score: Good Counsel 2-16 (22) – Lucan Sarsfields Inters 1-29 (32)
Lucan Sarsfields Inters came out on top in a hard-fought and bruising encounter at Galtymore Road, seeing off Good Counsel by a ten-point margin in a game more defined by grit than glamour. The final scoreline of 1-29 to 2-16 only tells part of the story in a contest that was physical, tense, and at times scrappy.
Good Counsel started brightly, picking off a couple of early points, but Lucan settled quickly and began to control proceedings through relentless pressure and work rate across the pitch. Points from play and a string of well-taken frees allowed Lucan to pull ahead. While the scoreboard kept ticking over for both sides, the rhythm of the game was disrupted by stoppages and physical contests, with little flow to the play.
Lucan built a six-point lead by half-time, 0-16 to 0-10, capitalising on Good Counsel’s patchy spell midway through the half.
The second half followed a similar pattern—plenty of effort, no shortage of hits, but few passages of clean hurling. Lucan’s goal, buried by David Mulqueen after a broken ball inside, gave them further breathing room, though Good Counsel refused to go quietly.
Two late goals from Good Counsel—one from number 14 and another from number 15—cut the gap, but it was too little too late. Lucan remained composed under pressure, adding scores steadily while managing the game efficiently.
The closing minutes were marred by a red card to Good Counsel’s number 15, reflecting the frustration that had built up over the course of a long and grinding battle.
This wasn’t a free-flowing championship classic, but rather a physical and often messy contest that required determination and discipline. Lucan Sarsfields handled that battle better, keeping their cool and taking their chances. Their ability to maintain discipline—conceding no cards and staying structured—was crucial in getting over the line.
Good Counsel will be disappointed with the result, but they showed plenty of fight and character, particularly in the second half. The road ahead won’t get any easier, but their spirit was never in question
