Planning Permission
We are delighted to announce that planning permission for our new ball wall and the extension of our juvenile pitch into a full-size all-weather pitch has been submitted to South Dublin County Council. The planning permission details have been posted at the entrance, exit and turn into the clubhouse. Lots of hard work and fundraising over the years has gotten us to this stage in our development plans. A special word of appreciation to Colm Farrell who has worked tirelessly to get these plans submitted. These changes will benefit all our members in our ever-growing club.
Social
Hurling
This was a very significant weekend for Lucan adult hurling as three teams gained promotion in the league. Pride of place goes to the Intermediate team who were crowned Division 4 champions after a hard-fought win over Crumlin. They will play Division 3 hurling next year - the first time a Lucan second team played at this level in hurling. Our Junior A's are on the up as well gaining promotion to Division 5 for next year, as Division 6 runners up. Their key result was a narrow midweek win over Raheny who held on to top place. Lucan completed their campaign with a walkover at the weekend. Our Junior B's also secured promotion and finished their campaign with a good win away to Craobh Chiarain.
Our seniors completed their league campaign with a 1-point loss away to Ballyboden. This was a very competitive encounter played in very wet conditions and Ballyboden claimed the two points, and second place in the League, with a goal with the last puck of the game. Nevertheless, it was a good league campaign for our seniors, with several new players blooded and full flexibility given to the Intermediates to enable them gain promotion.
The progression of our teams up the league Divisions builds on the progress made by hurling in the Club over the last three decades in particular. The winning of the Clubs first Intermediate Hurling championship, to go senior for the first time, back in 1999 was a key foundation on which the subsequent progress was built. Next Saturday night, there will be a special event in the Clubhouse to mark the 25th anniversary of that historic success. There will be a reception for the team and their invited guests from 7pm and all members are welcome to join from 9.30pm.
AHL4: Lucan Sarsfields 1-19, Crumlin 2-13
12th Lock, Sunday 30/6/24.
Lucan Sarsfields narrowly defeated Crumlin in a closely contested match, finishing with a scoreline of 1-19 to 2-13, to secure the Division 4 league title. The match saw a mix of impressive performances and some moments to forget, particularly for player-manager Brendan Kavanagh, who missed three openers. Kav, who was lucky to get a jersey, delivered some questionable flick passes, ensuring he will not feature in any more league games this season. Dreamy Charlie Mulqueen seemed to be elsewhere in the first half, but he swapped the candle he was holding for Jen Payne at longitude for the ash in the lock and was back on form in the second half.
Lucan Sarsfields started strong, but some early lapses allowed Crumlin to stay in touch, particularly through their traditional style of play involving long passes to their full forward.
Today Darragh Meehan, Donal Flannery, Paul Claffey and Eoghan Seary led the line. Eoghan had a tremendous season, especially considering his recovery from two serious injuries. Special mention goes to mentor Tommy Flannery, who nearly missed the match after taking the new jerseys to the church for a blessing. His dedication and efforts are highly appreciated, and his contributions to the club are only surpassed by the waltzes of Matilda.
The previous man of the match from two games ago struggled losing out on his height advantage in this round, but overall, Lucan Sarsfields held on for a memorable victory. The cup, arranged by management, was almost left on the home mantelpiece but was thankfully present to celebrate this momentous occasion. The mentors would like to thank all the panel, everyone contributed to a fine season and the league campaign, resulting in only one loss and promotion to Division 3.
Finally we have checked with Pennys and Murf, you can return the clothes to the mannequin following the after party.

AHL6: Raheny 2-13 Lucan Sarsfields 1-17.
Raheny, Tuesday 25/6/24.
What everybody wants...a 7 o'clock Tuesday evening game away in Raheny. Having survived the M50 traffic, Lucan faced up to the league leaders with one thing on our minds. A win would help secure our promotion chances to Division 5 next year. And from the whistle we made it known that we were not travelling for a challenge match. A quick goal from Evan Lombard opened the scoring for Lucan but Raheny replied very quickly with three unanswered points. Lucan struggled in the early stages to combat Raheny's running game but quickly settled. The lead ebbed and flowed through the first half leaving Raheny going into the break leading by 6 points on a 2 -7 to 1 -5 score line. Lucan quickly regrouped in the second half and slowly recouped the deficit and coming into the last five minutes held a 3-point lead. Raheny were not done however and fought to the final whistle. However, our backline was resolute and denied Raheny's final pushes. A good game with Lucan winning 1-17 to 2-13 and leaving Lucan in a good position to secure promotion with the upcoming final round of fixtures against Clontarf on June 30. (That game was subsequently conceded by Clontarf ensuring Lucan gained promotion.)

AHL Div 9, Craobh Chiarain 0-8, Lucan Sarsfields 3-14
Lucan Junior B hurlers wrapped up their league campaign with a big win in Clonshaugh on Monday night which secured promotion for next season. The scoreline might suggest this was an easy victory but in truth Craobh caused us plenty of problems throughout the hour. Aided by a stiff b breeze, Lucan got off to a great start and were 1-5 to no score after ten minutes. Minor scores from Adam Duffy, Adam Whyte, Niall Higgins, Finan Breen and Ross Campion followed by a Ross goal eased the nerves. However, Lucan lost their way a bit after that, poor decision making, and some sloppy play allowed the home side back into the game. It took some solid defending from Freddy Heran in goal and Tiernan Swords, Alan Flanagan, Dylan Ryan, Cillian Morrisey, Darragh Quinn and Kian Quinn to repel an improving home side. We finished the first half strongly and went into the half time break leading 1-10,0-4.
Craobh hit the first two scores in the new half but a long range free from Adam Duffy nestled in the back of the Craobh net which gave us the breathing space we needed for the rest of the half. In truth we left a lot of score behind in that half which could have been vital in a tighter match. Kevin Gormley added a further goal, Cian Ryan scored a great individual point from midfield while our defence stood strong to deny the home side the goal they needed to get back into the game.
And so, our league campaign ended with 11 wins from 12 matches and promotion to Div 8 for next season. Well done to all the players who contributed to their great achievement.
Our championship campaign starts on Friday July 12th where we will be hoping to bring our league form to another level for a tough championship campaign ahead.

Our Getting to be a habit. Third game in a row to be trailing at the turn, only to turn the tables and finish with 3 point, 1 point and tonight a 2 point winning margin. This kind of stuff would age you.
That’s my excuse anyway.
There were a lot of holes in this performance, but you definitely cannot question the character of a team that found themselves trailing by 5 points, at the three quarter mark, in a game where the lead had constantly changed hands, and the margin had never exceeded 2. Lucan won that final quarter 2-4 v 0-3, although Davis’s never gave up and having reduced the deficit to the minimum were pressing for an equaliser, in the final minutes. It was not to be and after a period of keep ball, Brendan won, and then converted, the free, that prompted the ref to blow it up.
The holes? Well it would be tempting to leave sleeping dogs lie, but I never much liked sleeping dogs.
* We pressed on Davis kickouts, but with very little success.
* Once they secured short kickout they were able to work the ball out, mostly unhindered.
* At the other end we struggled with kickout strategy and were forced to kick long.
* We did ok on Conor’s long kickouts but were securing much lower percentage than they were with their short kickouts.
* Their full forward line were very good, and Eoin, Brendan and Callum had their hands full. Davis’s carried ball out of defence with a lot of short hand passes and were able to transfer to that inside line.
* Lucan also carried well after turnovers. When this was done at pace, we caused them problems, but we were frequently guilty of delaying this tactic. Playing laterally. Or even worse, playing backward.
* This is harsh but raised 2 green flags. It could, and should, have been more! Left a lot of goal chances behind. No names. I reckon you probably know who you are!!
What’s the opposite of holes? There were a lot of good bits.
* 7 different scorers.
* Mulqueen lads scored 2 cracking goals.
* Gallagher lads added cracking points
* Keith and Tim were cracking heads in midfield.
* Ref had me cracking up.
* Cormac, Dean, Ross, & Ryan were not even on the bench 6 weeks ago.
* We won, and with 16 points in the league, have probably achieved what we would have hoped for the year. Although it is tempting to look back at the couple of draws, and at least a couple of the losses, that might so easily have gone the other way.
What does Dara say about controlling the controllables? Surely you must have heard him mention it?
