Lucan Sarsfields secured their place in the Senior 1 Football Championship for 2027 with an important 1-23 to 0-18 victory over Raheny in their relegation play-off.

With Senior 1 status on the line, Lucan started with the benefit of the wind but were dealt an early blow when Daire Newcombe was forced off with a hamstring injury after just three minutes.

Despite that setback, Lucan settled well and made good use of the conditions. They moved the ball patiently, created scoring opportunities and took full advantage of the two-point scoring opportunity, landing six two-pointers over the course of the game.

Lavin and Rian were particularly prominent on the scoreboard, while Colm Behan’s 1-1 also made an important contribution as Lucan built a valuable advantage.

Raheny had the wind at their backs for the second half and, with some dangerous long-range shooters of their own, Lucan knew there was still plenty of work to be done. Raheny duly applied pressure, but Lucan managed the game well and continued to find scores at important moments rather than simply trying to protect their lead.

It was a composed second-half performance in a game where the result mattered most. Lucan kept Raheny at arm’s length and saw the contest out strongly to record a 1-23 to 0-18 victory.

The win brings the curtain down on Lucan’s Senior Football Championship campaign on a positive note and, most importantly, ensures the club will once again compete in the Senior 1 Championship in 2027.

Our Cupla Focal is starting again on Monday 21st September at 7 pm in the clubhouse.

We’re delighted to welcome our youngest stars back at the Lucan Sarsfields GAA Academy.

Our Academy is all about giving boys and girls the chance to get active, have fun, make new friends and enjoy their first experience of Gaelic Games in a friendly and welcoming environment.

New players are always welcome! No previous experience is needed — just come along and give it a go. If your child has a friend, neighbour or schoolmate who might enjoy it, bring them along too! The more the merrier.
