Lucan Sarsfields secured their place in the Ladies Intermediate Football Championship semi-final following a strong second-half performance against St Brigid’s.

Playing with the benefit of a strong wind in the opening half, Lucan started brightly and worked hard to make the conditions count. It was a competitive and closely fought opening 30 minutes, with both sides finding the net and little separating them on the scoreboard.

Lucan looked set to take a slightly more comfortable advantage into the interval, but a St Brigid’s goal just before the break narrowed the gap considerably. Lucan still held the lead at half-time, 2-07 to 2-06, but with the wind now favouring St Brigid’s, there was plenty of work still to be done.

Rather than allowing the conditions to dictate the second half, Lucan came out with real purpose after the restart. Their work rate increased across the pitch and some excellent movement and link-up play began to open up the St Brigid’s defence.

Lucan produced some superb team scores, with a number of well-worked goals giving them the breathing room they needed. As the half progressed, they began to stamp their authority on the contest, combining hard running and intelligent use of possession with some clinical finishing in front of goal.

At the other end, Abby Shiels produced an outstanding performance in the Lucan goal. With St Brigid’s continuing to pose a threat, Abby pulled off a number of massive saves at crucial moments, helping to keep Lucan in front and preventing their opponents from building any momentum.

It was an impressive all-round second-half display from Lucan, particularly given they were playing into the strong wind. The team showed composure, determination and excellent teamwork to take control of the game and see out a deserved victory.

The result means Lucan Sarsfields are through to the Championship semi-finals, where they will face Raheny for a place in the final.

A huge well done to all the players and management, and thanks as always to everyone who came out to support the team.

💚 LUCAN SARSFIELDS GAA ACADEMY IS BACK! 🖤

We’re delighted to welcome our youngest stars back as the Lucan Sarsfields GAA Academy returns on Saturday, 12th September! 🙌

Our Academy is all about giving boys and girls the chance to get active, have fun, make new friends and enjoy their first experience of Gaelic Games in a friendly and welcoming environment.

New players are always welcome! No previous experience is needed — just come along and give it a go. If your child has a friend, neighbour or schoolmate who might enjoy it, bring them along too! The more the merrier.
