This early‑season clash lived up to the “game of two halves” cliché, with gale‑force conditions shaping the contest. In total, 4‑20 was scored at one end and just 1‑7 at the other. Ballyboden had the wind at their backs in the opening period and made it count. After Lucan controlled early possession but only had a Tim Bradley point to show for it, Boden hit two quick goals in three minutes to move firmly into the driving seat. Their physical presence in midfield and sharp support runners helped them turn pressure into scores, leaving Lucan nine points adrift by the first water break.
Lucan gradually began to settle. Donal Smith’s precise finish to the bottom corner got them moving, while Brendan Gallagher and Cormac Coffey added fine points into the wind, showing real composure. At half‑time the margin was still significant, but momentum had begun to turn and belief was visibly growing among the Lucan players.
A single defensive switch and some encouragement at the break proved enough. While Boden initially extended their lead early in the second half, Lucan soon took control. Between the 8th and 14th minutes, they hit five unanswered points through McHugh, Nolan, Ryan and Rock, the latter nailing a spectacular long‑range effort. When Oisin Doherty entered the fray, he quickly made an impact — his driven shot was saved, but Oisin Ryan reacted fastest to bury the rebound and put Lucan in front.
From there, Lucan pushed on relentlessly. Doherty soon added a magnificent individual goal, and Gallagher, Smith and Nolan kept the scoreboard moving. In defence, Carey, Murphy, Ennis and captain Porter stood firm, while keeper Conor O’Flynn’s kickouts continually found their men under pressure.
A fine all‑round team performance featuring grit, patience, and a flourish of attacking quality — a great start to 2026 for Lucan Sarsfields.
