The Dublin Under 16A Hurling Championship Final took place Saturday 16th of November before a huge crowd in the 12th Lock Lucan. With Lucan Sarsfields and Raheny facing off. Lucan got the 1st score courtesy of Jack McCarthy. But Raheny hit back with the next 3 points the pick of which was hit by their Full Forward Christian Kane. Lucan got back on track with some long range frees by Jack Mills and a couple of great team scores finished by wing back Derry Ware (2) and Henry Greene. With Raheny keeping the score board moving with some frees from Zach Donegan. When the short whistle blew it was Lucan by the minimum 7 to 6.
The early part of the second half featured some more long range frees from both sides and a point from play from Jack McCarthy. The hard working pair of Charlie Hughes and Donnacha Hunt middle of the pitch gave Lucan a platform there. Lucan now leading by 2 then struck from a goal when a long ball was picked by Páidi Murphy who slipped in David Coakley who made no mistake from close range with the Lucan crowd giving a huge cheer. Raheny responded with Marc Dempsey firing a shot through a forest of bodies to the net 3 minutes later and put the Raheny support into a frenzy, it was game on. Lucan were not fazed and struck the next 3 points with a Mills 65, Jack McCarthy and one from wing back Derry Ware, his 3rd, restoring their 5 point advantage. Raheny went looking for a goal to revive their challenge but a defensive reargard led by James Duffy, Danny Ryan, Eoin Darcy and Brian Whelan repeatedly repelled their attacks. A late few points from Raheny gave flicker of hope but a raid up the left by lucan had David Coakley striking a beauty off his left . The referee blew the final whistle and the Paddy O Brien Memorial trophy was heading to Lucan for the first time amid wild celebrations. It was a huge panel effort.
